Creating memories.....one vacation at a time!

PALMERO, THE CAPITOL OF SICILY

Palmero, Sicily’s capitol,  was founded in 734 BC by the Phoenicians and was taken over by the Greeks, Romans, Arabs and the Normans. The city is located by the Gulf of Palermo in the Tyrrhenian Sea.   The city is surrounded by mountains.  It is a gritty city with lots of street art, narrow cobblestone streets, markets, shopping and historical churches and buildings.   Netflix “The Leopard” had some scenes shot in Palmero.  Once considered the hotbed of Cosa Nostra, Palermo is now welcoming back tourists and  is a very safe city.

Quattro Canti (Four Corners), the intersection of Corso Vittorio Emanuele and Via Maqueda, officially known as Piazza Vigliena, is the center of the old city.   These four buildings make up the square and date back to 1620.   The sculptures were finished in 1663.  It is a vibrant square in the heart of Palmero.    You can see this square in “The Leopard” on Netflix.
