Creating memories.....one vacation at a time!

AGRIGENTO & THE VALLEY OF THE TEMPLES

Agrigento was founded by the Greeks in 582 BC.  It is a coastal city best known for the UNESCO site -  Valley of the Temples.  After the Greeks, came the Romans, then the Byzantines, Arabs, Normans and finally the Spanish. We spent one night in Agrigento and that evening we wandered down Via Atenea and explored the old city. We stayed in a Sicilian home -  B&B - Triskeles Agrigento.  The next morning we explored the Valley of the Temples.

I love towns that have art in their streets.

VALLEY OF THE TEMPLES

The Valley of the Temples is a large sacred area on the south side of Agrigento which dates from the 6th and 5th century BC.  This is the largest and best preserved ancient Greek buildings outside of Athens.   The site has only been partially excavated but it is extremly impressive.  It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.  The site has seven temples, all in Doric style.
