Creating memories...one vacation at a time!

THE ISLAND OF VITI LEVU

Viti Levu is the largest island in the Fiji Islands.  It has two main cities - Nadi (pronounced Nan-dee) on the west coast and Suva on the east coast.   Nadi is where the international airport is located and is where most people fly into.  Close to Nadi there is Denarau Island where the Sheraton resorts are located.  Nadi and Denarau are also considered the gateway to the Mamanucas and the Yasawa Islands and the islands to the North and the South.  Suva is the capital of the Fiji Islands.

There is a main road which circles the island.  The road between Nadi and Suva is called the Queen’s Road and goes through Sigatoka and Pacific Harbor and along the area called the Coral Coast which is noted for its resorts.  The road to the north is called the King’s road and goes through Lautoka (a sugar cane town).  Beqa Lagoon is also located off of Pacific Harbor.

THE NORTH - THE ISLANDS OF VANAU LEVU & TAVEUNI

Fijians refer to it as “The North”, meaning the islands of Vanau Levu and Taveuni plus the smaller islands of Laucala, Qamea, Matagi, Namenalala, Vanua Balavu, Nukubati and Kaibu.  You fly to these islands on small planes landing on grass strips.  Vanua Levu is the larger of the two islands and is the home to Savusavu and Labasa.

THE OUTER ISLANDS - MAMANUCAS & YASAWA ISLAND

The Mamanucas are a group of islands located just off the western shore of Viti Levu in a lagoon formed between the Great Sea Reef and the mainland.  Set among deep blue waters with fringing coral reefs of turquoise and pastel green, the Mamanucas and the islands of Nadi Bay offer tourists some of Fiji’s most outstanding retreats.  Home to more than a dozen resorts, their close proximity to Nadi allows easy access by boat, airplane and helicopter.  These “vacation islands” are the ones that are most popular for day trips or longer stays.  The islands of Monu and Monuriki are the islands featured in Tom Hank’s “Cast Away”.

The Yasawa Islands are above the Mamanucas and are a chain of 16 volcanic islands and several smaller ones.  The islands are dry and sunny with white-sand beaches, crystal-clear lagoons and rugged landscapes.  The group of islands has been featured in the movies, “The Blue Lagoon”, the 1949 version starring Jean Simmons, and in the 1980 version starring Brooke Shield.

The Yasawas are sparsely populated having only about 5000 villagers.  There are no banks, postal services or medical services.   Best way to arrive here is by plane or you can charter a seaplane.  There are a few ultra-luxury resorts in the Yasawas.
