	Californians were not alone in their eagerness to acquire gold. The discovery of the precious metal in Central Victoria in the 1850's sparked the world's biggest alluvial gold rush and a boom in population and building.

	After soaking up the history of the area, drive through the beautiful and varied countryside, perhaps trying your luck at the races or hang gliding for the more adventurous.
