January 17, Tuesday evening: After dinner, Didi told us about her life in Tahiti and how she and her mother learned to create tifaifais from their nanny when they lived in Paea. She
showed us the quilts she has collected through the years. Didi lectures at workshops in the United States and overseas on the tifaifai and Tahiti. Below are photos of her lecture and pictures of the
quilts that she brought with her to share with us. It was a wonderful introduction to Tahiti!
Left: "Tricycles & Trains" - done by Roxanne McElroy as a memory of her childhood. This quilt is worth $15,000 and is very special to Didi because
Victoria was brought home from the hospital in it.
"Night Sky"
"Victorian Orchid"
Left: "Mermaids"
Right: "Hibiscus"
Left: Didi designed "Papillons" for Victoria when Victoria was five years old because butterflies were her favorite bug.
