Inner Island Safari Tour

Wednesday, February 6th: Inner Island Safari took us on a wonderful tour of Moorea through their private farmlands, into the volcano and shared with us their Tahitian way of life.  Thanks to Christian and Debbie for their great photos of that special day.

We drove the backroads of Moorea in Range Rovers.

The spectacular view from the highest point on the tour.

The group at the highest point in the safari tour.

The trek down from the highest point.  Walking shoes are a must!

David knew where to find the eels in the stream and showed us how you can hand feed them!  The group watched but chose to let David feed them!

The view from Belvedere.

David & Ghislaine's family marae.

We visited a pineapple field.

We went to an agricultural school where David showed the group vanilla plants.

David showing the group a Tahitian sunblock!

David showed us how the early Tahitians used to communicate - by pounding out messages on a tree.

Ghislaine showing Marjorie a pineapple.

The stand at the agricultural school where the group was able to buy fresh vanilla and taste jams.

Ghislaine prepared a fruit lunch for us. Interestingly, we were told that the Tahitians do not eat their fruit raw.

Left and the two photos above: The site where The Bounty with Mel Gibson, Anthony Hopkins and Liam Nesson  was filmed. Above the shower that the crew used.   Mel Gibson showered here!!!!

The tour ended at the Distillerie in Moorea where we were able to taste about 10 different fruit liquers and buy souvenirs.
