Walking Tour of Papeete

Any travel agent can issue a ticket or book a cruise . . .
We create Travel Experiences . . . that extra effort is our hallmark!

Monday, January 31st:  After the Tifaifai lecture, we went into Papeete.  We shopped at the Marche (Papeete's municipal market), in black pearl and fabric stores and did a tour of Robert Wan's Black Pearl Museum. Everyone agreed that Papeete was a very interesting seaport town.

Downtown Papeete is a bustling place full of black pearl shops, fabric stores, a wonderful municipal market wih fruits, vegetables, meats, fish and handicrafts and all sorts of other shops.

Above: The city hall.   Right:  Cathedral of Notre Dame in downtown Papeete.

Scenes in the Municipal Marche.  Left - first floor - fruit and vegetable vendors, right - coconut vendor.  Below left:  lei sellers.  Below right:  The second floor is where all the handicrafts, pareos and other souvenirs are sold.

Lunch at the cafeteria on the second floor, serenaded by a ukelele trio.

There are several fabric stores that Didi likes in Papeete.  Venus and Hawaii are just a couple of her favorite places.
