Twentieth-Century Fox's "Australia"
is now playing and stars Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman. It also stars Aussie actors David Wenham, Jack Thompson, Bryan Brown, Ray Barrett, Jack Thompson, Bill Hunter and David Gulpilil and introduces 11-year old Broome boy Brandon Walters. It is produced and directed by Aussie Baz Luhrmann who also directed "Moulin Rouge","Romeo and Juliet" and "Strictly Ballroom".
It is a romantic sweeping epic set in Australia just before World War II and also tells the story of the bombing of Darwin. Nicole Kidman portrays Lady Sarah Ashley, an english aristrocrat, who travels down under to sell her inherited cattle station which is the size of Belguim. Instead of selling it, she teams up with Hugh Jackman and together they save the station and fall madly in love with one another. Some say it is a cross between "Gone with the Wind" and "Out of Africa".
