La Belle Époque Buckley House

La Belle Époque is a landmarkVictorian inn located in  Napa, CA at the entrance to the Napa Valley. The Queen Anne-style inn is one of the finest examples of Victorian architecture in California's beautiful Napa Valley Wine Country. It has a magnificient collection of fine period antiques, oriental carpets and beautiful stained glass windows. The historic bed and breakfast is located near the Napa Valley Wine Train, Napa's Riverfront, Copia - The Center for Wine, Food and the Arts, museums, galleries, spas, hot air balloons, premium outlet shopping and the wineries of the Napa Valley.

When you stay at La Belle Époque, your day begins with a gourmet breakfast, served in the formal, candlelit dining room in front of a crackling fire. Homemade specialties of the house include french toast souffle, pears poached in wine, artichoke and cheese fritata, eggs florentine with creamy cheese sauce, fresh baked muffins and homemade white and chocolate and cranberry scones served with delicious smoked bacon or Napa Valley chicken with apricot sausage. Low-fat or vegetarian breakfast will be prepared on advanced request.  After this satisfying meal many of the guests linger at the table to share travel experiences with fellow guests.

Steven and Lynnette Sands purchased the inn in 2002 and have recently remodeled and upgraded each guest room and the suites.  All guest rooms have 600 thread count sheets and the suites have 820 thread count sheets, port and nibbles, cotton basket weave bathrobes plus other amenities.

La Belle Époque is the only B&B in the Napa Valley with its very own Wine Tasting Room!  Each evening you will be invited to enjoy the host's personal vintage wines with hors d'oueveres in the inn's intimate wine cellar.

A photo of the intimate living room is in the upper left,  Upper right is a picture of one of the candlelit breakfasts and lower right is another picture of the dining room where the breakfasts are held.

Designed and built in 1893, La Belle Époque is a well-maintained example of the work of Napa's most noted architect Luther M. Turton who designed many of the buildings in Napa between 1876 and 1925. The house was built by Herman Schwartz, a successful hardware merchant and community leader, for his daughter Minnie who only occupied the house for less than four years before dying in child birth. After remaining vacant for several years, the house was occupied by the Eagle Cycling Club for use as a clubhouse. The Cycling Club had over 150 members and one of their most noted accomplishments was the construction of one of the first cycling paths in California that ran from Napa to Vallejo. In 1903 the Silva family, owners of the Napa Soda Springs Mineral Water company, purchased the house for use as their private residence. The family lived in the house until 1941 with their son Frank, who eventually became the District Attorney of Napa County. Between 1941 and 1980 the house had a succession of owners and in 1981 Blanca Semmler acquired the house and converted it into La Belle Époque Bed and Breakfast Inn, which was one of the first bed and breakfast inns in the Napa Valley.  The inn only has six guest rooms.
