Eichardt's Private Hotel is located in downtown Queenstown, New Zealand on the shores of Lake Wakatipu and dates from 1859 when it was built as a woolshed by a William Gilbert Rees. In 1862 gold was discovered on Shotover River and Mr. Rees turned his woolshed into a hotel, which was named Queen's Arm Hotel. |

Eichardt's is a member of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World and has just been awarded by Andrew Harper's Hideaway Report, Best New Small Hotel for 2002. |

In 1867, William Rees sold the hotel to Albert & Julia Eichardt. The hotel operated until 1970 under many different owners and then became Eichardt's Tavern. The tavern was destroyed by floods in 1999 and was then reinvented as a boutique hotel. |

Its 70 rooms have been reduced to just five luxury suites each with more than 90 sq. ft. and some have views of Lake Wakatipu against the backdrop of The Remarkables mountains. |
