Prince Edward Island is a province of Canada and is located in the Gulf of St. Lawrence.
Discovered and settled by the French, it finally became a British colony in 1763. English, Scottish and Irish settlers joined the French inhabitants to build industries of agriculture and fishing. On July l, 1873, Prince Edward Island became a part of Canada. Lucy Maud Montgomery's book, Anne of Green Gables, brought fame to this tiny island and today tourism is a very viable industry as there are Anne fans around the world.
